Running in circles by the Hudson River
Week 2, Day 2 of NYC Marathon Training: 6.5 mile run and 15 minutes on the Peloton bike
I was supposed to be doing Tuesday track at the East River Track with my running club after work. But potential lightning cancelled that event.
So I ended up leaving my backpack at my gym, Retro Fitness, in Lower Manhattan (right near the Staten Island Ferry!) and going for a run in Hudson River Park, along the Hudson River.
Normally when I do this, (it is one of my favorite places to run!), I simply run up and down the path. Depending on how many miles I have planned for the run, I may go all the way up to Chelsea Piers (around four miles north) or even further before turning around.
More than once, I have run that distance all the way up to the George Washington Bridge!
But since rain (and lightning!) were in the weather forecast last night, I didn’t want to get stuck many miles from where I wanted to go.
So I only ran as far as Stuyvesant High School, then kept on running back and forth in the area so that I was never too far from getting back to my stuff — and getting back home!
In all, I surprised myself by getting in 6.5 miles — more than I expected to.
And guess what? It never rained after all.
When I got home, I did a short 15-minute Peloton 80s music ride with Denis Morton.
Fortunately, my banged-up knee is only hurting a little now. Whew!
On a completely different note, I am moving my Subway Squawkers baseball blog over here to Substack. Please check out my first piece here — it’s about how Derek Jeter is a Hall of Fame grudge-holder, as evidenced by his comments in the new docuseries The Captain.
