Yesterday was a difficult day for me in my marathon training. I had received some disappointing professional news that afternoon, so I wasn’t in a good mood when I
showed up to Prospect Park after work to run Race #4 in the Al Goldstein Summer Speed Series. But I am committed to my training, and to earning the bling from doing all six of the races, so I showed up and put on my game face.
It wasn’t the best of races for me for a variety of reasons, but I put in the mileage, did the 5K with a lousy 48:19 finish time, and then came home and did an extremely unmemorable 10-minute Peloton climb ride.
That is one of the things you learn each time you do marathon training. You’re going to have good days and bad days, but you have to keep on keeping on. You can’t allow temporary emotions to dictate whether or not you work out.
On a lighter note, I was wearing my Mo Salah Liverpool kit for the race. I have gotten into following Premier League soccer over the past year, and he is my favorite player because he’s not just a great player, but he’s such a positive human being. Anyhow, a fellow fan gave me big cheers when I crossed the finish line. A bright spot on a bad day.
Now I’m off to run again tonight. Day 4 of marathon training awaits.
